Elephants Extinct By 2020 If Ivory Ban Reversal Succeeds Samuel Wasser, a recognized authority on the disappearance of elephants, has warned that no more than 400,000 African elephants remain in the wild today.  As a point of comparison, there were over one million at the beginning of the 1980s. Half of the Congo’s wild elephants have been killed in the past five years. It’ll be a very sad day indeed when the last elephants have been eradicated, hacked up to satisfied archaic and ignorant notions.  Making trading ivory legal is a very very very bad idea for elephants and for us because they make our world more beautiful.   How many of you have reblogged that cute little elephant video of him chasing after his herd?
